This time of year can be very confusing when it comes to choosing whether to keep or switch your Medicare plan.  Every year it seems like something changes and we need to re-educate ourselves on the Medicare options.  Here is a quick reference guide to help you navigate Medicare Enrollment.

Time Period:

First, the enrollment period is October 15th– December 7th.  Make sure you make your changes during that time or you will have to wait until next year (unless you qualify for a Special Election Period).

Quick Guide to Parts of Medicare:

Medicare Part A, Hospital Insurance helps cover:  Inpatient care in hospitals, some Skilled nursing facility care, Hospice care and some Home health care.

Medicare Part B, Medical Insurance helps cover: Services from doctors and other healthcare providers, Outpatient care, some Home health care, Durable medical equipment, some preventive services.

Medicare Part C, Medicare Advantage which includes all benefits and services covered under Part A and Part B and may also include Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) as part of the plan.  These plans are run by Medicare-approved private insurance companies and may include extra benefits and services for an extra cost.
